Padre Pio
Council #10754 of the Knights of Columbus, based at St.
Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Great Falls,
Virginia, is a Catholic family, fraternal and service
organization intended to serve the needs of the Knights
and their families, as well to carry out a variety of
worthwhile projects in support of the Catholic Church
and to assist those in need.
When the
council was established on November 19, 1991, the
charter members chose Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, a
remarkable man of the 20th Century, as the namesake and
patron of the new council. Padre Pio was a Capuchin
friar at the monastery of San Giovanni Rotondo in Italy,
who was widely noted around the world for his
extraordinary spiritual gifts. He was the first priest
to experience the Stigmata - the five wounds of Christ
in his hands, feet, and side - which he bore on his body
for fifty years from 1918 until his death on 23 Sept.,
1968. Numerous people have attributed miracles to his
intercession, and his cause for canonization is now
under consideration in Rome.
Since the
establishment of our council in his name, with just over
thirty members, Padre Pio Council has enjoyed strong
growth and an active community of members. Today, our
Council has more than 160 members, and encourages all
Catholic laymen in the area to join and contribute to
the activities of the Council and the Parish.
